University of Saskatchewan establishes cooperation with the School of Public Policy and Administration of XJTU

On the morning of June 20, 2018, a delegation from the Johnson-Shoyama School of Public Policy of the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, visited the School of Public Policy and Administration of XJTU under the lead of Professor Jeremy David Rayner, Deputy Dean of the institute, and Ms. Haizhen Mou, senior advisor for China affairs. Both parties held in-depth discussion about future cooperation.

Mr. Dong Xinyu, deputy dean of the School of Public Policy and Administration of XJTU, extended his warmest welcome to the Professor Rayner and his delegation, and gave a brief introduction about the School of Public Policy and Administration. He also made a proposal on establishing cooperation with the University of Saskatchewan after introducing the construction of the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbor, the development of research institutes, as well as the current demand for international cooperation. Professor Rayner also expressed his hope for the cooperation to be established between both parties. He introduced the operation mechanism, talent training, and scientific research in the Johnson-Shoyama School of Public Policy, and expressed his expectations to possible cooperation on students and teachers exchange, short-term training and credit programs. In the discussion, XJTU Professor Zhang Sifeng introduced the research team and platform of the School, stating his hope on establishing an international cooperation base.

At the end of the discussion, both parties made agreement on establishing cooperation on exchange between teachers, joint doctoral programs, joint scientific project application, short-term visiting for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and joint organization of international conferences, etc. The cooperation will start from the teacher and student exchange in the field of social security, hoping that a joint research platform will be established in the future. In closing, professor Dong Xinyu, on behalf of the School of Public Policy and Administration of XJTU, and Professor Rayner, on behalf of the Johnson-Shoyama School of Public Policy, signed an outline agreement, laying foundation for future cooperation.

TheJohnson-Shoyama School of Public Policy was co-established by the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina in 2007. It is one of the four certified schools by CAPPA in Canada. It has two Canada Research Chair professors who own reputation in the research fields of income inequity and social policy, governance and innovation, innovation of humanist scientific policy, etc.
